Centre for China-Europe/EU Law Studies awarded EU Jean Monnet Excellent Center Programme

The China University of Political Science (CUPL) and Law signed a cooperation agreement with the European Commission's Executive Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA) for the Jean Monnet Excellence Centre Programme (Contract No.101176899-EULSCGT) on 24 Dec, 2024. 


The application of the Programme was filed by Director of the Centre for China-Europe/EU Law Studies of CUPL & Professor at the Institute of European Law of the College & the EU Jean-Monnet Chair Professor Zhang Tong, and it was approved by the European Union at the end of July with a high score of 96.

The Chinese team for the programme from CUPL side includes Prof. Zhang Tong (leader), Prof. Liu Wenjie, A/Prof. Zhang Xuezhe, A/Prof. Xu Yan, A/Prof. Pan Deng, Dr. Jiang Feng’an and Dr. Wu Yiyue from the College, Prof. Weng Wuyao from the School of Civil, Commercial and Economic Law, A/Prof. Lan Hua from the School of International Law, A/Prof. Zhang Nan and A/Prof. Li Liang from the Academy of the Rule of Law, Prof. Guo Zhilong and A/Prof. Shang Xixue from the School of Criminal Justice, A/Prof. Cong Yingnan from the Business School and Dr. Zhang Ying from the Data Law Lab.


The European team includes Prof. Thomas Möllers from the University of Augsburg in Germany, Prof. Reiner Schulze from the University of Münster in Germany, Prof. Beate Gsell from the University of Munich in Germany, Prof. Reinhard Singer from Humboldt University in Berlin, Prof. Andre Janssen from Radboud University in the Netherlands, Prof. Armin Cuyvers from Leiden University in the Netherlands, and Prof. Christa Tobler from the University of Basel in Switzerland.

Previously, Zhang Tong's team had successfully applied for and executed the EU Jean Monnet Programme for four times, namely the 2011-2014 ‘European Module’ (Zhang Tong), the 2015-2018 ‘Jean Monnet Chair’ (Zhang Tong), the 2020-2023 ‘Jean Monnet Chair’ (Zhang Tong) and the 2023-2026 ‘European Module’ (Jiang Feng'an).


This time, the EU Jean Monnet Excellence Center Programme under application focused on the theme of the EU Legislation on Supply Chains and Green Trade and Their Implications for China. During the three-year implementation period from 1 Sept, 2024 to 31 August, 2027, the programme team would carry out the work in the construction of EU law modules, research projects, international exchanges and programme management.
