Speech by Attila Miseta, president of University of Pécs


President Attila Miseta of the University of Pécs, along with his delegation, visited CUMT on November 26. President Zhao Hongwei met with the delegation at the B301 Conference Room in Xingjian Building. Accompanying the delegation were István Tarrósy, director of the International Centre at the University of Pécs, and  Adrián Fábián, dean of the Faculty of Law. Staff from CUMT International Office and School of Chemical Engineering attended the meeting.

President Zhao Hongwei extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the University of Pécs and gave an overview of the history, achievements, and future plans of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT). He emphasized that CUMT places great importance on cooperation and exchange with the University of Pécs. Since the establishment of partnership in 2008, both universities have engaged in a series of fruitful scientific research collaborations and exchanges between faculty and students. High-level visits have further solidified the foundation of this partnership. President Zhao expressed his expectation for deepening practical cooperation in areas such as student cultivation, faculty exchange, scientific research, and organization of international forums.

President Attila Miseta expressed his gratitude for the warm reception by China University of Mining and Technology and congratulated the university on its accomplishments over the past century. He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Hungary in May this year has further deepened and elevated Sino-Hungarian bilateral relations, providing new and powerful impetus for educational and academic cooperation between the two countries. President Miseta hoped to deepen academic cooperation between the two universities. Director István Tarrósy provided an introduction to the University of Pécs’ history and international exchange programs.

Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as summer programs, faculty and student exchanges, and organization of academic conferences. The delegation toured relevant laboratories at School of Chemical Engineering and held in-depth discussions regarding potential cooperation.

Founded in 1367, the University of Pécs is the 7th oldest university in Europe, the first state university in Hungary, and the second-largest comprehensive university in the country. The School of Engineering is one of the best engineering faculties in Hungary, offering programs in mechanical engineering, information technology, electrical engineering, and architecture. The University of Pécs also excels in social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences.
