I. Brief Introduction to Capital Normal University
Capital Normal University (CNU) is one of the first 23 universities qualified for Chinese language teaching for international students in China, which could be traced back to the year of 1965. The university enrolls approximately 2,500 international students for long-term and short-term programs each year.
So far CNU has set up 5 Confucius Institutes, 2 independent Confucius Classrooms and 1 Coordination Office for Confucius Classrooms, namely, Confucius Institute at Saint-Petersburg State University in Russia, Confucius Institute at the University of Venice in Italy, Confucius Institute at the University of Piura in Peru, Confucius Institute at the State University of New York at Buffalo in the United States, Confucius Institute of Bremen in Germany, Independent Confucius Classroom at Hungarian-Chinese Bilingual School in Hungary, Independent Confucius Classroom at Luxor University in Egypt, and Coordination Office for Confucius Classrooms in Minnesota in the United States.
CNU is the Demonstration Base for International Students Education of Ministry of Education, Base of Preparatory Education for International Students Pursuing Bachelor’s degree in China with Chinese Government Scholarship, Chinese Language Education Base of Beijing Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, and HSK testing center.
II. Program Introduction
(1) Prospective students:
The program is mainly for international students whose mother tongues are not Chinese and hope to improve Chinese in a short time.
Age: 15 - 60, in good health.
(2) Time for Application / Study:
Application Time: Fall semester (Jun.30) ; Spring Semester (Dec.31)
Study period: Fall Semester (Sept.-Dec.); Spring Semester (Mar.-Jun.)
The time of classes will be determined according to the time zones of the students in one class. We will try to make appropriate teaching plans for student groups or learners with other personalized needs.
(3) Teaching Objectives:
Through semester-based Chinese intensive courses, the Chinese proficiency level of the students will be improved rapidly in a targeted way.
It takes about 1 semester to reach the elementary level from scratch (Equivalent to HSK3) and students can use Chinese for daily conversation.
It takes about 1-2 semesters to improve from the elementary level to the intermediate level. The intermediate level learners will have good daily listening and speaking ability and basic reading and writing ability (Most of the students could pass HSK4 test).
It takes about 2-3 semesters to improve from the intermediate level to the advanced level. The advanced level Chinese learners will have general written expression ability, good Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing ability and good cross-cultural communication literacy, and can be competent for Chinese communication in different situations with language proficiency of HSK5 or HSK6.
(4) Curriculum Arrangement
According to different Chinese proficiency levels, there are 3 grades and 7 levels from elementary, intermediate to advanced, specifically Elementary A, Elementary B, Elementary C, Intermediate A, Intermediate B, Intermediate C and Advanced A. The teaching system is matched with the levels of classes. Chinese courses at all levels cover Comprehensive Chinese (intensive reading), listening, speaking, writing and Chinese characters, etc. Each has its own emphasis and a complete system.
Students will be assigned into different classes according to the result of a placement test. The following is the teaching arrangement of different classes:

The teachers listed above may be subject to change due to the increase or decrease in the number of classes at the same level. In addition, the college offers Chinese cultural elective courses open to Chinese language students.
(5) Teaching Arrangement
20 hours per week, 16 weeks in one semester (Including holidays and exam weeks). The credits for each course are consistent with the weekly class hours.
III. Teaching Form
Online platforms: Confucius Institute Online Platform, ZOOM, Tencent Meeting, etc. (ID number and password to be released before class)
VI. Tuition
Application Fee: RMB450
Tuition: RMB9,800 per semester;
At least 5 students are required to open the class.
V. Application Procedure
1. Log in the registration system for international students of CNU: https://cnu.17gz.org/. Fill in personal information and upload application materials.
2. Pay the application fee online. Tuition can be paid through bank transfer. Please upload payment voucher in time.
3. After receiving the verifying information of successful payment, learners can start the course.
VI. Preparation for Class
Please download Wechat APP and register an account. Make sure the email or other contact ways are available.
VII. Certificate
CNU will issue Certificate of Completion to the students attending the program. Students with excellent performance can be admitted first and have chance to receive scholarship if they apply for diploma courses of Capital Normal University.
