Job opening: research specialist(s) in Area and Global Studies

Position Description

The Institute of Global and Area Studies at the Capital Normal University (Beijing) invites applications for a full-time, Research Specialist position in Area and Global studies.


About the Institute

The Institute of Global and Area Studies at the Capital Normal University, established in June 2023 (formerly: Center for Study of Civilizations), is among the first high-level research institutes for global and area studies approved by the Ministry of Education. As a key Global and Area Studies institution in China, the institute integrates teaching, scientific research, professional academic training, discipline building and international cooperation.

Institute of Global and Area Studies developed three main research directions: Balkan studies, Civilizational exchanges (wenming hujian), and theory& methodology of Area studies, regularly issuing journals: Global History Review (Series C), Southeast European Studies, and Civilization Studies.


Qualifications

Candidates for this position must have:

  • Research and/or teaching focus in one of the fields below: global history, world history, historiography, international politics, international relations, world economy, (western) philosophy, cultural studies, ethnology, sociology, anthropology, geography (human geography), foreign language and literature (mainly, but not limited to Southeast European languages and literature), world literature, comparative literature, international law, etc.

  • A Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) and post-doctoral working experience in one of relevant field above. (Priority will be given to professionals with academic qualifications and work experience in foreign institutions.)

  • Professional working experience in (domestic or foreign) academic research institutes, holding positions equivalent to senior or deputy senior researcher by the start of the appointment. (The age of senior researchers should not exceed 45 years and that of deputy senior researchers should not exceed 40 years.)

  • A Ph.D. degree from an overseas university and willingness to assume a full-time or a post-doctoral research position.

Job conditions and remuneration provisions

  • Full-time research specialists obtain the status equivalent to official personnel of public institutions in Beijing. Non-Chinese research specialists` status will be accorded by relevant laws and regulations.

  • Salary is negotiated as a basic (monthly) salary + (annual) bonus (reward).

  • Senior research specialists are entitled to specific benefits (negotiated individually).

  • For other positions remuneration is arranged according to the standards set by the university and the institute.
